For this, we are going with the botanical conception. As far as the term goes in that sense, it refers to the product of plant growth formed from the plant’s ovary with tissue surrounding the seed of said plant. Insofar as we are concerned here, the tissue is edible. Otherwise, barring a few exceptions, we will not be referring to it here.

The cultural conception is far more complicated mostly because it is not consistent with reference to what is admitted to the group and what is excluded from the group. The closest delineation that we have for this type of classification is that fruits are usually sweet and vegetables are usually savory and or neutral.
