FSIS Constituent Update 9/12/2025


In a constituent update, the FSIS announced a few updates in addition to announcing which events FSIS officials were involved in.

EVENTS:

  • Administrator Justin Ransom attended a speaking engagement, the Meat Industry Food Safety Conference, in Kansas City, MO. Justin Ransom is a former executive of Tyson Foods. The speaking engagement occurred on September 10th, 2025.
  • Deputy Administrator Denise Eblen American Spice Trade Association 2025 Regulatory Workshop, located in Washington D.C. While there, she spoke on how changes in regulation could affect labeling and use cases of associated products.

MAJOR GUIDELINE UPDATES:

  • As a result of a three year old petition (dating to May 9th, 2022) launched by The Meat Institute (the group that runs the Meat Industry Food Safety Conference), the “FSIS has deleted the Moisture Protein Ratio (MPR) reference from the “Jerky” entry in the FSIS Food Standards and Labeling Policy Book.”. It was determined that the MPR entry as it relates to jerky is unimportant to food safety.
  • The petition in question can be viewed here: Petition 22-02 .
  • “Starting January 12, 2026, all FSIS meat and poultry product export certificates for products exported to Singapore will be generated, issued and officially maintained in FSIS’ Public Health Information System (PHIS)”. The same export certificates will be digitally signed.
  • Lastly, available for public comment is the following: Visual Post-Mortem Inspection in Swine Slaughter Establishments . The public can comment until October 20th, 2025.
