293 Layoffs from Perdue Farms

According to a WARN notice filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Perdue Farms will layoff of nearly 300 employees at their facility in Washington, IN. As a result of elimination of the second shift of employees, the company expects the layoff to be permanent.

Purportedly, the layoffs will not affect other operations in the region. The final work date will take place on October 10th, 2025, with separation taking place November 2, 2025. There is no union representing the affected workers. All affected workers were reportedly informed of this action on or prior to September 3, 2025 when the WARN notice was filed.

For those of you who do not know what a WARN notice is, WARN is an acronym. WARN stands for Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, coming from a 1988 act of the same name. Typically WARN notices are filed with the affected state Department of Workforce Development or its equivalent in order to provide advance notice of mass layoffs or closures of some type. Typically, this applies to employers that have more than 100 employees and requires at least 60 days notice.
